Golfers rarely get the chance to break records, much less their own. After winning the TimberTech Championship, Bernhard Langer had a record that he broke in the most recent PGA Tour Champions competition. Langer achieved the record for the oldest golfer to win on the PGA Tour Champions. Twitter users could not help but express their delight at the historic victory. Langer has become the oldest champion on the PGA Tour Champions after winning 43 times in the last 15 months. Additionally, he won the Charles Schwab Cup a record sixth time. He not only beat his age with a 63, but he also shot his age five times, with the first one being on his 64th birthday.
Langer gave a lukewarm response when asked about his year leading up to the TimberTech Championship, which gets underway Friday at Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club. He acknowledged that he had some successful moments, but not as many as in the past dozen or so years, when he has dominated the 50+ circuit.
Langer said, “It’s been a solid year, not quite as good as the last 12 or 13, they were exceptionally good”.
Langer has just one more chance to catch Irwin in this Champions season. The Charles Schwab Cup Championship will be held in Phoenix the following week and will feature the top 36 players in the Schwab Cup standings after Sunday. Padraig Harrington, who shot a second consecutive 67 on Sunday to finish single fourth, sits right behind Steven Alker, who finished T-6 this week, at the front of the field when the four-round competition gets underway on Thursday. With his victory, Langer rose one spot in the standings, to sixth.
Langer has achieved two Major victories. His Senior Tour career, though, has been far more impressive than his PGA Tour heydays. Only one victory separates the 65-year-old from Hale Irwin, the Senior Tour’s all-time leading winner, who has 44 victories on the PGA Tour Champions. Even so, Bernhard Langer has already accomplished a lot, as evidenced by his upcoming victory this weekend. Let’s examine Langer’s historic victory at the Florida club Royal Palm Yacht & Country.

One of the most well-known PGA Tour Champions golfers in history is Bernhard Langer already. He has 42 career victories, three fewer than Hale Irwin, and won the Charles Schwab Cup for the sixth time last year at the age of 64, no less. Last year, on his birthday as well, Langer shot his age for the first time. A few months later, he beat it by having a stroke. He repeated it on Friday, shooting an 8-under 64 in the opening round of the Chubb Classic presented by SERVPRO. This included five consecutive birdies on the back nine, giving him a two-shot lead over 2021 runner-up Robert Karlsson and Calusa Pines Golf Club member Tim Petrovic. Despite the fact that he has been a professional golfer for 50 years, he shows no signs of slowing down, and Hale Irwin’s 45 wins appear to be seriously in risk. On his birthday, August 27, 2021, Langer shot his age at the Ally Challenge in Michigan. He beat his age with a 63 at the Schwab Cup Championship at the Phoenix Country Club less than three months later. He referred to it as his best game ever. Although Langer has equalled his age five times, he doesn’t recall ever considering it as much as the day he turned 64. After all, he was constantly reminded of his age. This feat that Bernhard Langer has achieved is no ordinary one and it shall be remembered for years to come.
